About the XY986
XY986 is the Dell product number for a 2TB 7.2K rpm 2.5-inch SFF NL-SAS hard drive made by Seagate, model ST2000NX0273. Dell sells such drives in its own caddy with its own label, so the same Seagate model can appear under several Dell numbers. The drive is listed in the Dell Storage Enclosure Support Matrix for the PowerVault MD3060e, which is a 60-bay dense SAS enclosure. The matrix gives the Dell number, form factor, OEM model, capacity, speed, vendor and whether the drive is self-encrypting, and nothing beyond that.
Compatibility
The Dell support matrix lists XY986 for the PowerVault MD3060e only, and this page does not extend that to other Dell enclosures or servers. Dell points to its support site for current drive firmware, so check the firmware level of a used drive against the version Dell currently ships. The enclosure rules in the same matrix also apply, for example the limit of 25 solid state drives per enclosure, and drives must be installed starting with slots 0, 3, 6 and 9 of each drawer. The drive may carry a different Dell number in another enclosure's matrix, so match the number printed on the caddy.
