The Lenovo 4XB7A17063 is an enterprise 3.84TB read-intensive 2.5-inch SATA 6Gb/s solid-state drive built on Samsung's high-efficiency PM893 V-NAND architecture. Delivering high read throughput and consistent sub-millisecond responsiveness with 1 DWPD endurance, it is the primary high-capacity boot, read-cache, and hypervisor storage drive option across Lenovo ThinkSystem server generations. It includes end-to-end data path protection and power loss protection tantalum capacitors. In the secondary marketplace, it is one of the most liquid and widely traded enterprise SATA drives. Buyers should verify remaining endurance percentage and confirm that the hot-swap carrier is included.

About the 4XB7A17063

4XB7A17063 is Lenovo's standard read-intensive 1.92TB 2.5-inch SATA 6Gb/s hot-swap solid state drive for ThinkSystem servers, built on Samsung PM893 enterprise hardware. Rated at 1.3 drive writes per day (DWPD), it provides reliable sequential read throughput of 550 MB/s for hypervisor boot, application hosting, and web server storage. It superseded the earlier PM883 generation, offering enhanced 128-layer V-NAND flash durability and lower idle power consumption.

Compatibility

The drive is compatible with small-form-factor (SFF) 2.5-inch hot-swap drive bays across the ThinkSystem server family, including SR650, SR650 V2, SR650 V3, SR630, and ST650 models. It connects to any standard SATA or tri-mode backplane and operates behind SATA onboard controllers, SAS HBAs, or hardware RAID adapters. It does not fit into 3.5-inch LFF bays without a 3.5-to-2.5 conversion tray. It is not an NVMe drive and cannot use direct PCIe backplane lanes.

How to identify a genuine unit

The drive ships in a ThinkSystem hot-swap drive caddy with a label displaying Lenovo part number 4XB7A17063, FRU part number 02CW045 or SP47A17063, and feature code B8NZ. The drive body is a Samsung PM893 showing model MZ7L31T9HBLT-00ALV. Lenovo XClarity Controller and MegaRAID Storage Manager identify the drive with Lenovo firmware prefix LDx and verify authentic drive telemetry.

Buying used

Request SMART health data confirming the percentage wear used (attribute 233) and total terabytes written. A drive pulled from an enterprise environment with less than 10 percent wear represents an excellent secondary purchase. Ensure the hot-swap sled handle is fully intact and includes mounting screws. Verify that the drive is not locked by an ATA password or customized storage array firmware.
