Dell PowerEdge T110 IItower1 socket4 DIMMsmax 32 GB

The Dell PowerEdge T110 II is a single-socket tower server for small offices. It takes one Intel Xeon E3-1200 family, Core i3-2100 family or Pentium processor, up to 32GB of DDR3 ECC memory in four sockets and up to four cabled 3.5-inch SAS or SATA drives. The PowerEdge T130 replaced it. Buyers usually want it as a low-cost file or print server or a lab box.

Generations

Works together

How the Dell PowerEdge T110 II connects to servers, storage and the network: 4 ways, with the parts and products on each path.

Fibre Channel SANiSCSI and NVMe/TCP over EthernetDirect-attached SASFile storage (NFS and SMB)

Fibre Channel SAN

Match the speed: 16Gb and 32Gb FC HBAs, switches and array ports work together, and each generation also runs one or two speeds below its own (a 32Gb port runs at 16Gb and 8Gb).

iSCSI and NVMe/TCP over Ethernet

Keep the speed the same at all three points: a 25GbE server, a 25GbE switch port and a 25GbE array port. Mixed speeds work but the slowest link sets the pace.

Direct-attached SAS

12Gb SAS uses Mini-SAS HD (SFF-8644) connectors; older 6Gb gear uses Mini-SAS (SFF-8088). Adapter cables exist, but the link runs at the slower speed.

File storage (NFS and SMB)

Front-end ports face the clients; back-end ports (on scale-out systems) connect the nodes to each other and need their own switch pair.

Check compatibility with Dell

Before you buy, confirm the exact configuration against the vendor's own lists: firmware levels, operating systems, adapters and optics that Dell has tested with the Dell PowerEdge T110 II.

Buying a used T110 II: what to check

Check which CPU is fitted, because the same chassis shipped with Xeon, Core i3 and Pentium parts. Confirm the cabled drive controller and that all four drive cables and the single 305W power supply are present. DDR3 unbuffered ECC memory is required, so mixed registered modules will not work.

FAQ

How much memory does the PowerEdge T110 II take?

Dell lists four 240-pin sockets for DDR3 unbuffered ECC DIMMs at 1066 or 1333 MHz, in 1GB, 2GB, 4GB or 8GB modules, for a maximum of 32GB.

How many drives fit in the T110 II?

Up to four 3.5-inch cabled SAS or SATA drives. The system is not hot-plug, so drives are cabled inside the chassis.
