About the QSFP-40G-SR4-AR

The Arista QSFP-40G-SR4-AR optical transceiver provides high density 40 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity for data center core spine switches and leaf aggregation networks. Transmitting over four parallel optical lanes at 850 nanometers on multimode fibre, it supports link lengths up to 100 meters on OM3 and 150 meters on OM4 optical cabling.

Compatibility

Compatible with Arista 7050Q, 7050QX, 7060CX, 7280SE, 7280CR, and 7500 Series modular line cards. It supports native 40GbE fabric links as well as channelized 4x10GbE breakout mode configured via standard Arista EOS interface speed commands across enterprise switching platforms.

How to identify a genuine unit

Enclosed in a precision metal QSFP+ casing with a beige or black pull tab release handle. The manufacturer label identifies the part as QSFP-40G-SR4, showing Arista Networks branding, individual serial number barcode, manufacturing code, and optical safety warnings.

Buying used

Inspect the MPO internal optical ferrule face with an MPO inspection scope to ensure no dust or surface scratching on any of the fiber cores. Mount into a live QSFP+ switch port to verify that Arista EOS authenticates all four optical lanes and reports balanced optical power.

Works together

How the Arista QSFP-40G-SR4-AR connects to servers, storage and the network: 3 ways, with the hardware on each path.

iSCSI and NVMe/TCP over Ethernet

Keep the speed the same at all three points: a 25GbE server, a 25GbE switch port and a 25GbE array port. Mixed speeds work but the slowest link sets the pace.

File storage (NFS and SMB)

Front-end ports face the clients; back-end ports (on scale-out systems) connect the nodes to each other and need their own switch pair.
