About the JNP-QSFP-100G-SR4

The Juniper JNP-QSFP-100G-SR4 optical transceiver provides ultra high bandwidth 100 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity for data center spine leaf fabrics and cloud compute environments. Operating across four parallel 25Gbps optical channels at 850 nanometers on multimode fibre, it provides low latency inter-switch links and high speed server uplinks.

Compatibility

Compatible with Juniper QFX5120, QFX5200, QFX5210, QFX5220, QFX10002, QFX10008, and MX Series modular routing systems. It requires RS-FEC (528, 514) enabled on host switch ports to guarantee IEEE 802.3bm bit error rate standards under Junos OS network environments.

How to identify a genuine unit

Housed in a QSFP28 metallic shell featuring a beige or black pull tab extraction handle. The top label bears the Juniper Networks logo, part number JNP-QSFP-100G-SR4, engineering number 740-058734, individual serial number, and regulatory compliance markings.

Buying used

Inspect the MPO optical ferrule interface under high magnification to confirm that none of the optical channels are scratched or obstructed by debris. Verify in a Junos switch that RS-FEC synchronizes properly and that all four optical channels show balanced receive power levels.

Works together

How the Juniper JNP-QSFP-100G-SR4 connects to servers, storage and the network: 3 ways, with the hardware on each path.

iSCSI and NVMe/TCP over EthernetFile storage (NFS and SMB)Hyperconverged cluster

iSCSI and NVMe/TCP over Ethernet

Keep the speed the same at all three points: a 25GbE server, a 25GbE switch port and a 25GbE array port. Mixed speeds work but the slowest link sets the pace.

File storage (NFS and SMB)

Front-end ports face the clients; back-end ports (on scale-out systems) connect the nodes to each other and need their own switch pair.

Hyperconverged cluster

Plan at least two 25GbE ports per node to two switches; all-NVMe clusters often move to 100GbE.
