About the QFX-QSFP-40G-SR4

The Juniper QFX-QSFP-40G-SR4 optical transceiver provides high density 40 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity for data center aggregation layers and core spine switches. Operating over four parallel optical lanes at 850 nanometers on multimode fibre, it supports link lengths up to 100 meters on OM3 and 150 meters on OM4 optical cabling.

Compatibility

Compatible with Juniper QFX5100, QFX5110, QFX5200, EX4600, EX4650, and MX Series modular router line cards. It supports native 40GbE fabric links as well as channelized 4x10GbE breakout mode configured via standard Junos OS command line interface options.

How to identify a genuine unit

Constructed in a QSFP+ metallic casing with a beige or black pull tab release mechanism. The manufacturing label displays Juniper Networks branding, part number QFX-QSFP-40G-SR4, assembly code 740-032986, serial number, and optical laser safety warnings.

Buying used

Inspect the MPO internal optical guide pins and ferrule face with an MPO fiber scope to ensure no dust or scratches exist on any of the optical fiber lanes. Test on a QSFP+ switch port to ensure all four optical lanes synchronize and report balanced optical power levels.

Works together

iSCSI and NVMe/TCP over Ethernet

Keep the speed the same at all three points: a 25GbE server, a 25GbE switch port and a 25GbE array port. Mixed speeds work but the slowest link sets the pace.

File storage (NFS and SMB)

Front-end ports face the clients; back-end ports (on scale-out systems) connect the nodes to each other and need their own switch pair.
