The NVIDIA DGX Station A100 is a tower workstation with four A100 80 GB GPUs connected by NVLink, a single 64-core AMD EPYC 7742 and 512 GB of system memory. It runs from a normal office power outlet and is built for small AI teams that do not have a data centre. This page covers the A100 generation only; the earlier V100 DGX Station and the newer GB300 DGX Station are separate products.

Works together

How the NVIDIA DGX Station A100 connects to servers, storage and the network: 4 ways, with the parts and products on each path.

Fibre Channel SANiSCSI and NVMe/TCP over EthernetDirect-attached SASFile storage (NFS and SMB)

Fibre Channel SAN

Match the speed: 16Gb and 32Gb FC HBAs, switches and array ports work together, and each generation also runs one or two speeds below its own (a 32Gb port runs at 16Gb and 8Gb).

iSCSI and NVMe/TCP over Ethernet

Keep the speed the same at all three points: a 25GbE server, a 25GbE switch port and a 25GbE array port. Mixed speeds work but the slowest link sets the pace.

Direct-attached SAS

12Gb SAS uses Mini-SAS HD (SFF-8644) connectors; older 6Gb gear uses Mini-SAS (SFF-8088). Adapter cables exist, but the link runs at the slower speed.

Storage

File storage (NFS and SMB)

Front-end ports face the clients; back-end ports (on scale-out systems) connect the nodes to each other and need their own switch pair.

Check compatibility with NVIDIA

Before you buy, confirm the exact configuration against the vendor's own lists: firmware levels, operating systems, adapters and optics that NVIDIA has tested with the NVIDIA DGX Station A100.

Buying a used DGX Station A100: what to check

Check that all four GPUs report 80 GB in nvidia-smi, confirm the coolant loop has no leaks or stains and that the pump runs, and verify the unit's serial with NVIDIA before paying. Ask for photos of the GPU baseboard and run a sustained load test, since the system can draw up to 1,500 W.
