About the 1000T

The Dell PowerEdge 1000T is an enterprise 2U rack server engineered for computing and virtualization workloads. Powered by 2 Dual active-active storage nodes, Intel Xeon Gold 5218 (16 cores per node, 32 cores per appliance) across 24 memory slots supporting up to 384GB DDR4 ECC Registered RDIMM, the 1000T balances throughput and memory capacity. In Dell's server catalog, the 1000T succeeded the UNITY-480XT and was followed by the POWERSTORE-1200T, positioned alongside rival systems including PURE-STORAGE-FLASHARRAY-X20, NETAPP-AFF-A250.

Options and compatibility

Processor support on the 1000T utilizes 2 embedded dual storage controllers sockets with thermal heatsinks matching CPU power envelopes. System memory slots on the 1000T require DDR4 ECC Registered RDIMM modules, and mixing RDIMM with LRDIMM memory is not supported. The 1000T chassis utilizes proprietary array drive carrier drive trays across its 2.5-inch drive backplane bays. Networking on the 1000T uses optical front-end host I/O modules, and expansion cards install into PCIe expansion risers risers.

How to identify it

Physical identification of the 1000T is verified by the Dell EMC enterprise storage array front fascia with the 1000T badge on the front chassis ear. The pull-out information tag on the 1000T control panel displays the 7-character Dell Service Tag and default login credentials. In Array Management Controller, the server identifies as 1000T with active firmware, slot mapping, and power telemetry.

Buying used

When evaluating a pre-owned 1000T, inspect the embedded dual storage controllers CPU socket pins for damage and ensure retention clips are intact. Run Dell ePSA diagnostics across all 24 memory slots of the 1000T to verify zero uncorrectable ECC faults under load. Verify that redundant power supplies in the 1000T match in wattage and that Array Management Controller Enterprise remote console is enabled. Ensure required 1000T drive caddies and bracket accessories are present.

Works together

How the Dell PowerStore 1000T connects to servers, storage and the network: 3 ways, with the parts and products on each path.

Fibre Channel SANiSCSI and NVMe/TCP over EthernetFile storage (NFS and SMB)

Fibre Channel SAN

Match the speed: 16Gb and 32Gb FC HBAs, switches and array ports work together, and each generation also runs one or two speeds below its own (a 32Gb port runs at 16Gb and 8Gb).

iSCSI and NVMe/TCP over Ethernet

Keep the speed the same at all three points: a 25GbE server, a 25GbE switch port and a 25GbE array port. Mixed speeds work but the slowest link sets the pace.

Front-end ports face the clients; back-end ports (on scale-out systems) connect the nodes to each other and need their own switch pair.

FAQ

What is the difference between PowerStore T and X models?

PowerStore T runs PowerStoreOS on bare metal for standard block and file, whereas PowerStore X embeds VMware ESXi directly on the storage nodes (AppsON).

Does the 1000T support NVMe over Fabrics?

Yes, it supports NVMe/FC (32Gb) and NVMe/TCP (25GbE) for ultra-low latency host connections.
