About the QSFP-100G-SR4

The Arista QSFP-100G-SR4 is a 100GBASE-SR4 QSFP28 optical module designed for short-reach data center interconnects and spine-leaf fabric links. It transmits over 850nm multimode fibre ribbons up to 100 meters on OM4 cabling using an MPO-12 connector. It provides high aggregation bandwidth for modern virtualized computing environments and cloud storage fabrics.

Compatibility

Compatible with Arista QSFP28 ports on 7050X3 and 7060X series switches, including 7050CX3-32S and 7060CX-32S models. It supports standard 100GbE aggregation modes and can also be divided into 4 independent 25GbE channels using optical breakout cabling in Arista Extensible Operating System (EOS).

How to identify a genuine unit

Encased in a precision QSFP28 housing with an integrated beige pull-release tab. The label features Arista branding, part code QSFP-100G-SR4, and manufacturing traceability markings. Arista EOS reports lane-by-lane signal power and operating status via standard CLI monitoring commands.

Buying used

Inspect the MPO-12 multi-fibre connector face for dust or alignment pin deformation before connecting ribbon cables. Insert the transceiver into a switch port to ensure that all 4 25Gbps optical channels achieve frame alignment and link synchronization without packet loss.

Works together

How the Arista QSFP-100G-SR4 connects to servers, storage and the network: 3 ways, with the hardware on each path.

iSCSI and NVMe/TCP over EthernetFile storage (NFS and SMB)Hyperconverged cluster

iSCSI and NVMe/TCP over Ethernet

Keep the speed the same at all three points: a 25GbE server, a 25GbE switch port and a 25GbE array port. Mixed speeds work but the slowest link sets the pace.

File storage (NFS and SMB)

Front-end ports face the clients; back-end ports (on scale-out systems) connect the nodes to each other and need their own switch pair.

Hyperconverged cluster

Plan at least two 25GbE ports per node to two switches; all-NVMe clusters often move to 100GbE.
