About the 46C3447

The Lenovo 46C3447 is a 10GBASE-SR short-range optical SFP+ transceiver module designed for Lenovo ThinkSystem 10Gb Ethernet network adapters. Operating at an 850nm wavelength over multimode fiber (MMF), it supports transmission distances up to 300 meters on OM3 fiber and 400 meters on OM4 fiber, providing standard optical interconnects to top-of-rack data center switches.

Compatibility

Compatible with all Lenovo ThinkSystem network adapters featuring SFP+ or SFP28 optical cages, including Intel X710-DA2, Broadcom 57414, and Mellanox ConnectX-5. It connects using standard LC duplex optical patch cables. It is encoded specifically with Lenovo EEPROM microcode to eliminate unsupported transceiver warnings in host network adapters.

How to identify a genuine unit

The transceiver features a silver metal housing with a black extraction bail latch and an LC duplex optical receptacle. The label lists Lenovo option part number 46C3447, FRU part number 46C3449, and feature code 5053. When queried via ethtool or adapter CLI tools, it reports genuine Lenovo vendor strings and optical telemetry.

Buying used

When sourcing pre-owned 10G optical transceivers, inspect the optical bore for dust or scratches on the internal ferrule lenses. Use protective dust caps during shipping and handling. Verify that the transceiver's digital optical monitoring (DOM) reports valid transmit and receive power levels under active connection.

iSCSI and NVMe/TCP over Ethernet

Keep the speed the same at all three points: a 25GbE server, a 25GbE switch port and a 25GbE array port. Mixed speeds work but the slowest link sets the pace.

File storage (NFS and SMB)

Front-end ports face the clients; back-end ports (on scale-out systems) connect the nodes to each other and need their own switch pair.
