About the MMA4Z00-NS

The NVIDIA MMA4Z00-NS delivers 400Gb/s NDR InfiniBand and 400GbE optical connectivity in a finned OSFP form factor for high-density generative AI superclusters. Operating over 850nm multimode optical ribbons with an MPO-12 APC connector, it reaches up to 50 meters on OM4 cabling. It utilizes 4 channels of 100Gb/s PAM4 optical transmission to provide extreme bandwidth for GPU-to-GPU communications.

Compatibility

Designed specifically for NVIDIA Quantum-2 QM9700 and QM9790 InfiniBand switches, Spectrum-4 SN5600 switches, and ConnectX-7 host adapters. It supports rail-optimized AI topologies, collective communication offloads, and hardware adaptive routing in large compute fabrics.

How to identify a genuine unit

Constructed in a heavy-duty OSFP package featuring integrated heatsink fins for passive chassis cooling and a green release pull tab. The upper casing features a serialized NVIDIA label with part code MMA4Z00-NS and regulatory markings. Detailed optical and temperature telemetry is reported through NVIDIA network management software.

Buying used

Inspect the integrated heatsink fins to confirm they are undamaged and ensure airflow channels remain clear. Check the MPO-12 optical interface for cleanliness before mating. Verify in NVIDIA fabric management software that the module achieves 400Gbps NDR link training without optical power warnings.

Works together

How the NVIDIA MMA4Z00-NS connects to servers, storage and the network: 3 ways, with the hardware on each path.

iSCSI and NVMe/TCP over Ethernet

Keep the speed the same at all three points: a 25GbE server, a 25GbE switch port and a 25GbE array port. Mixed speeds work but the slowest link sets the pace.

File storage (NFS and SMB)

Front-end ports face the clients; back-end ports (on scale-out systems) connect the nodes to each other and need their own switch pair.

Hyperconverged cluster

Plan at least two 25GbE ports per node to two switches; all-NVMe clusters often move to 100GbE.
