The HPE ProLiant Compute DL360 Gen12 is the 1U, two socket rack server that follows the DL360 Gen11. It uses Intel Xeon 6 processors with up to 144 cores and up to 8 TB of DDR5 memory at up to 6400 MT/s. The front storage can be 4 LFF, 10 SFF or 20 E3.S NVMe drives, and a multiple purpose front cage can also hold an OS boot device or a front OCP network card. The chassis supports closed loop and direct liquid cooling modules with leak detection.

Works together

How the HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen12 connects to servers, storage and the network: 4 ways, with the parts and products on each path.

Fibre Channel SANiSCSI and NVMe/TCP over EthernetDirect-attached SASFile storage (NFS and SMB)

Fibre Channel SAN

Match the speed: 16Gb and 32Gb FC HBAs, switches and array ports work together, and each generation also runs one or two speeds below its own (a 32Gb port runs at 16Gb and 8Gb).

Fibre Channel SAN: how it fits together

iSCSI and NVMe/TCP over Ethernet

Keep the speed the same at all three points: a 25GbE server, a 25GbE switch port and a 25GbE array port. Mixed speeds work but the slowest link sets the pace.

Direct-attached SAS

12Gb SAS uses Mini-SAS HD (SFF-8644) connectors; older 6Gb gear uses Mini-SAS (SFF-8088). Adapter cables exist, but the link runs at the slower speed.

File storage (NFS and SMB)

Front-end ports face the clients; back-end ports (on scale-out systems) connect the nodes to each other and need their own switch pair.

Check compatibility with HPE

Before you buy, confirm the exact configuration against the vendor's own lists: firmware levels, operating systems, adapters and optics that HPE has tested with the HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen12.

Buying a used DL360 Gen12: what to check

Gen12 is a current platform, so used stock is limited. Check the front cage type, the cooling kit (standard, high performance or liquid) and the power supplies fitted, since these decide which processors the unit can run. Confirm iLO 7 licence state and that the server is not bound to a Compute Ops Management account.
