The HPE ProLiant XL675d Gen10 Plus is the dual-processor GPU node of the Apollo 6500 Gen10 Plus system, a 6U chassis built for AI training and HPC. It takes two AMD EPYC 7002 or 7003 processors, 32 DDR4-3200 slots and up to 16 drives, and carries either an NVIDIA HGX A100 8-GPU board, AMD Instinct accelerators or up to 10 double-wide PCIe GPUs. HPE's QuickSpecs, first issued in December 2020, now carry a retired banner and describe the base products as obsolete and no longer available for sale. It turns up second-hand through GPU server resellers.

Works together

How the HPE ProLiant XL675d Gen10 Plus connects to servers, storage and the network: 5 ways, with the parts and products on each path.

Fibre Channel SANiSCSI and NVMe/TCP over EthernetDirect-attached SASFile storage (NFS and SMB)GPU cluster fabric

Fibre Channel SAN

Match the speed: 16Gb and 32Gb FC HBAs, switches and array ports work together, and each generation also runs one or two speeds below its own (a 32Gb port runs at 16Gb and 8Gb).

iSCSI and NVMe/TCP over Ethernet

Keep the speed the same at all three points: a 25GbE server, a 25GbE switch port and a 25GbE array port. Mixed speeds work but the slowest link sets the pace.

Direct-attached SAS

12Gb SAS uses Mini-SAS HD (SFF-8644) connectors; older 6Gb gear uses Mini-SAS (SFF-8088). Adapter cables exist, but the link runs at the slower speed.

File storage (NFS and SMB)

Front-end ports face the clients; back-end ports (on scale-out systems) connect the nodes to each other and need their own switch pair.

GPU cluster fabric

InfiniBand adapters and switches must match the generation: HDR is 200Gb, NDR is 400Gb. VPI adapters such as ConnectX-6 and ConnectX-7 can run either InfiniBand or Ethernet.

Check compatibility with HPE

Before you buy, confirm the exact configuration against the vendor's own lists: firmware levels, operating systems, adapters and optics that HPE has tested with the HPE ProLiant XL675d Gen10 Plus.

Buying a used XL675d Gen10 Plus: what to check

Check which GPU module is fitted (SXM4 with 54 V supplies, or PCIe) and that the tray, NVLink bridges and all GPUs are present. Confirm both CPUs, all 32 DIMM slots and the chassis power supplies work, and ask whether direct liquid cooling parts are installed. HPE requires factory installation for NVLink GPUs, so incomplete trays are hard to fix.

FAQ

What is the difference between the XL675d and XL645d?

Both are nodes for the Apollo 6500 Gen10 Plus chassis. The XL675d is a dual-processor server that takes the whole chassis, with up to 10 double-wide or 16 single-wide GPUs. The XL645d is a single-processor node, two of which fit in one chassis.

Which processors does the XL675d Gen10 Plus support?

HPE lists AMD EPYC 7002 and 7003 Series processors up to 280 W, with up to 2 TB of memory per processor depending on DIMMs. The 7xxxP single-socket parts are XL645d only.

Is the XL675d Gen10 Plus still sold?

HPE's QuickSpecs for the system carry a retired notice stating the base products are obsolete and no longer available for sale.
